three blue ducks wedding
izabela and tobey

Mary Oliver once posited that attention is the beginning of devotion.
You meet someone. You begin to know them - at first by inches. You notice the way they self consciously cover their mouth when they laugh, the look on their face when they eat something delicious for the first time, the glimmer in their eyes and tension they hold in their shoulders that precede a tough conversation. But knowing someone, truly knowing someone, takes time. It takes attention. It takes intention. It takes experiencing all the vagaries and ups and downs of life together, until what you know about them could take you half way into the sky. And still, if you are lucky, you are ever finding out more. You are inching toward the stars, one quirk and conversation and day at a time.
Time is something these two have had. Time to know. Time to understand. Time to see. Time to see and know and say yes, I understand most of you that is knowable - all the glory and all the grime, the soft centre and the hard edges. The things that are easy to love and the things that might be hard.
Izabela and Tobey, ever inching towards the heavens.
