Investing in yourself is the best possible thing you can do your business, and for your growth as a photographer AND business owner. When I first started out, I would umm and uhh and delay making any education purchases because I didn’t think I could afford it, or didn’t know if it would be worth it. I quickly realised that I couldn’t afford NOT to, and literally every piece of education I’ve invested in has returned infinitely more in revenue than what it cost me at the time.
Learn from my mistakes, the 200 + weddings I’ve shot, all the experiments I’ve done, the meetings I’ve had, the psychology I put into my shoots, the education I’ve invested in, the way I shoot, the business books I’ve read and the podcasts I’ve listened to, distilled into 60 or 120 minutes of targeted chat. Last financial year (2020), in the middle of a pandemic, I brought in over 200 K, had 260 enquiries, and booked over 40% of the enquiries I was available for. The next year I was named one the 30 Top Emerging Wedding Photographers on the planet by Rangefinder. I'm sharing this not to boast, but simply to be transparent and show that I've been in the trenches, figuring out what works. I see so many people branding themselves as educators when they are just starting out, or that are pursuing education because their actual business isn't successful enough for them to get by and it absolutely kills me. Investing in education for yourself is the best thing you can do (and something I continue to do even now).
