THERESA & ALEX

Some tales are almost too good to be true.
Boy spies girl across the way while they are both on placement in a faraway country - half a world from each of their homelands - and thinks she’s a bit of alright. One day she plonks herself down next to him as he’s sitting with a bunch of friends, he blurts the first thing that comes to his mind, and they somehow end up spending the rest of the day together. It’s a beguiling and unexpected mix of the comfort and ease of someone you feel you’ve known forever and the thrill and danger of someone new. They both fall, quickly.
But.
Circumstances aren’t quite ripe. Nothing eventuates except the longing swirling around in each of their heads.
Placement is coming to an end. A few days before the boy is set to fly home the girl decides that discretion is in fact not the better part of valour and hey, what has she got to lose? In a few days they would both fly back to their respective parts of the world, unlikely to ever cross paths again. So she sends him a long, declarative message. Spelling it all out. All her thoughts and desires and fears. And so the boy extends his flights by a week. They spend three days together, exploring all the eventualities.
And just like that, they are done. He moves to Germany, learns to speak her language, they elope under a Berlin lockdown, and here we are. Celebrating it all, in the backyard of his ancestral home where generations have made vows and promises, and families have merged and extended.
Enjoy
