kate & Anthony
intimate backyard wedding

Kate and Anthony first met in their early 20s, both recognising immediate and reciprocal attraction (which may have been slightly less cerebral on Anthony’s part being a 20 year old at the time). A relationship blossomed but, as young relationships often do, they parted ways.
They reconnected 7 years later, when time and experience and folly and wisdom had shaped and moulded them into both older and more introspective beings. They had both dated and romanced other people in the time that had passed, but always with a nagging what if sitting somewhere at the back of their skulls in-between relationships. The instinctive attraction was still there, but now it was enhanced and tempered by a depth of feeling and wisdom that only the intervening years could have provided.
However, a combination of ill timing and youthful mistakes ensured that only 2 years after being re-united, they were essentially separated for another 3. Both sure of their importance to one another but stuck in a kind of limbo until they could be together again, and so they decided to ride it out, together but apart, every day. Such an extreme act of love and loyalty can’t help but change a person, and change they both did. Coming out the side surer of themselves, and of each other.
This was a particularly memorable and noteworthy one that for me touched on a lot of big themes. The redemptive power of love and loyalty, and of family, how sometimes both the person and the time need to be right, how sometimes it can take life-altering events to see and recognise the momentous things right in front of you
And so in celebration of all this and so much more they got married in an intimate little ceremony in the backyard of the place they call home, surrounded only by those they love the most. The ceremony was conducted by the amazing Lena Saunig, with the outrageously beautiful styling done by Styled By Her.
There are so many parts of this day and little narratives I want to draw attention to, from the beautiful - the many moments shared between Anthony and his yaya (read - gran) interspersed throughout the day, not the least of which was when she found out they were pregnant when they announced it before the ceremony - to the comical - the look on Kate’s face as Anthony picked her up and carried her down the aisle - but I think in this case I will let the images tell the rest of the story.
