These two met the old fashioned way - on Tinder - and bonded over their love of skiing and being forthright. Ellen knew he was serious when she asked Chris - who had never been a runner - to run a marathon with her less than a year into their relationship and he unhesitatingly said yes.

Despite such modern beginnings the day was full of sentimental nods to the past. Ellen and her family toasted those who couldn’t be with them at the start of the day which led to a lot of held back tears and embraces - apparently their family is known for both their love of champagne and propensity for happy tear , Ellen’s mum had some small lockets made with picture of their family dog and grandparent’s made to attach to her bouquet, Chris’ grandma read a poem during the ceremony that was written by Ellen’s grandma who passed away some time ago, and schnapps was served after the ceremony as a nod to Chris’ Austrian heritage.

Some moments to look out for;

  • - Chris encouraged to launch an apple over the house he spent the morning in - a Serbian wedding tradition as suggested by his best man who hails from the country

  • Ellen and her folks getting a bit overwhelmed when toasting to those who couldn’t be with them at the start of the day

  • Post ceremony embraces and schnapps

  • Some emotive moments during, in particular, Ellen’s parents speeches

  • In general, Ellen looking elegant and joyful

  • In general, Chris looking stoked with his lot in life
