briana & Kenrick

gunners barracks wedding

It might sound somewhat redundant as you picture wedding days as typically being full of visible and intentional displays of love and joy and nervous emotion, but this one was full of more of all the above than usual.

Bri and Kenrick met at the long running but ill-fated Hot Damn, Sydney’s ex home of all things eyeliner-punk. They quickly bonded over a mutual love of the Deftones and all things pop-punk.

So many beautiful little narratives played out throughout the day, but here’s a few to look out for.

  • In general, Bri and her dad Ron and their many interactions throughout the day. The tears from both of them when he saw her in her dress for the first time, the emotion in his eyes as he walked her down the aisle, their embrace after his speech. Dads and daughters man.

  • Bri’s parents split up when she was young but remained great and close friends, and both found new partners. There is a moment below when her dad was walking Bri down the aisle and both her mother and step-mother are fiercely embracing, the pride and joy clearly evident in their faces. Everything that image implies really speaks to me.

  • Kenrick stealing and replacing the celebrant’s pocket square halfway through the ceremony to wipe the tears away.

  • An impromptu dance party as the sun went down.

  • Kenrick overcome with emotion and not being able to speak when they met up before the ceremony to dispel some tension and have a moment to themselves.

Always, but on this day I was particularly stoked with this change of career. Being welcomed so warmly into people’s lives for a day and being witness to so many intimate moments is something I will never take for granted.

Enjoy
